2014 Event

Mardi Gras for a Cause

was first dreamed up by a group of musicians from Warwick, NY who wanted to celebrate their passion for music and their community.  Living in a town that was so supportive of the arts, it didn’t take long for a whole committee of musicians and business owners to come together and turn that dream into a reality. The inaugural event took place on February 12th, 2013 and transformed what would have been an ordinary Tuesday night into an evening where people of all ages came together and had unique and memorable experiences while supporting a wonderful community organization, Backpack Snack Attack. We have been lucky to have had so many charitable sponsors, partners, and volunteers come forward and help make Mardi Gras for a Cause a huge success in the past, and we look forward to growing our participation and fundraising goals in the 3rd annual event happening on February 17th, 2015. Please check back often for updates and don’t hesitate to use the form on the “contact us” page for more information and to find out how to get involved with this year’s event!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

A Recap from the

Inaugural event:

To all our friends, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters of the Inaugural Mardi Gras for a Cause event in downtown Warwick:

Thank you!!

Those of you who were able to spend some time in the Village of Warwick this Mardi Gras must know, the evening was a great success.  We set out on this journey with a few important goals in mind:

1)    Organize a unique event that all community members could have a great time being involved in

2)    Showcase local businesses and musicians

3)    Raise awareness and money for an important cause that directly affects our community

We are extremely happy to be able to announce that we’ve accomplished all of these goals, and more.  The turnout for the event surpassed our expectations and included a wide variety of participants from many different backgrounds.  The participating establishments were able to put out creative food and drink specials while our volunteer performers were able to share their talents with the crowds.  And as for our event beneficiaries, Backpack Snack Attack, we were able to spread the word about what they do and (with your help!) raise over $4,000 to help buy and fill backpacks with nutritious food for young people in need.

On behalf of the first ever Mardi Gras for a Cause Committee, I’d like to say thank you for helping us make this Inaugural event so successful—in the community, by the community, and for the community.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Backpack Snack Attack, an outreach program of the Warwick Reformed Church in Warwick, NY, is a non-profit organization, begun in 2009, that provides food on weekends and in the summer to nearly 300 needy children within the Warwick, Florida, and Greenwood Lake Public School Districts. A group of volunteers fill backpacks each week with 13-14 food items (per child), they deliver this food to the schools, whereupon the bags are sent home with each needy child. All donations to the program are used to purchase food and backpacks; there are no administrative costs.Learn more about the cause by clicking here, where you can also make direct donations and learn how to get involved.
